From the Pastor's Desk

My sister Yvonne and I have been trying to meet for lunch since early January to celebrate her birthday. Every time we arranged it something would happen that forced us to change it. We finally met yesterday, the 31st, to celebrate her birthday (January 7th).

I had brought a small gift for her and was waiting with our Mother for Yvonne at the restaurant. Yvonne comes in carrying a Christmas gift bag and hands it to me, a late gift (the new book on Seal Team Six, SWEET). That’s when things got interesting.

People around us, especially our waiter, acted like they had never seen a Christmas present before. Even as I was leaving the restaurant a waitress commented on it and asked if there was a gift for her. A month ago nobody would have thought twice about someone carrying a Christmas gift bag, after all, almost everyone had one.

How quickly we forget Christmas, and so often Christ. I had added a note in Yvonne’s card that said, ‘Your birthday isn’t over until the last card is received’. Apparently Christmas isn’t over until the last gift is given. I thought mine was, I was delightfully surprised to discover it wasn’t, and still isn’t, because God never stops giving His precious gifts to His children.

I may have to start wearing my Christmas ties all year long.

Blessings, Bro. Tom

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
